Skyline PTSA will host a presentation on adolescent depression and suicide. This presentation for parents will cover adolescent development and mental health, signs of depression and anxiety in teens, red flags for suicide risk and what parents can do to create a supportive environment and, if necessary, intervene in a crisis.

• Depression affects an estimated one in eight adolescents in the United States today.
• In a recent Washington State survey, nearly one in four high school students said they had seriously considered suicide, and one in ten reported a suicide attempt in the last year. These rates are even higher for some more vulnerable groups of youth.
• Each week, an average of two youth between 10 and 24 die by suicide in Washington.
