Each year thousands of schools across the United States participate in geography bees, using materials prepared by the National Geographic Society. Cascade Ridge’s Geography Bee will follow the National Geographic Society’s guidelines.

• Students will be asked one question in each of up to 7 rounds.
• Students have 15 seconds to answer.
• Students may have a question repeated or a word spelled only twice during the preliminary rounds.
• If a student gives the correct answer, they will be awarded 1 point.
• If a student gives an incorrect answer, they will be given the correct answer and no points are awarded. (The next student will be asked a new question.)
• If a student does not know the answer, the may say ‘pass’ before time is up. A pass is recorded as an incorrect answer and no points are awarded.
• At the end of 7 rounds, points will be tallied. If there is a tie in determining the ten finalists, there will be 1 tiebreaker round to determine the top ten finalists who will advance to the finals.
