LUNCH FOR THE BREAK is working to make sure all Issaquah School District students have enough to eat, even when school is not in session, by providing a FREE BOX OF GROCERY ITEMS for each student in the family that can be used to make breakfast, lunch and snacks.

For the upcoming April break, there are now nine schools, with the addition of Maywood Middle, being sponsored: Apollo, Briarwood, Clark, Grand Ridge, Issaquah Valley, Maple Hills, and Sunset Elementary Schools; Issaquah Middle School and Maywood Middle. The shopping list for donated foods can be downloaded from the website. New this break – we are also looking for donations of books, new or gently used! All ages welcome! Donation Drop-Off will be April 6, 2pm-7pm at three locations. Details on how to donate can be found at www.LunchForTheBreak.com

 

 

YWCA FAMILY VILLAGE ISSAQUAH is looking for adult or high school volunteers to help with tutoring and programs at their after-school program. Hours would be 2:30-5pm (perhaps 6pm). For more information and signing up, please contact Sondi Lind, 425.270.6800. Great way to get service hours!

They are also looking for donations of non-perishable snacks for their after-school program. Items can include granola bars, packaged fruits or any other healthy packaged snacks. Items can be brought directly to YWCA Village at 930 NE High St., Suite 101, Issaquah, 98029.

PICKERING GARDEN – Volunteers take part in growing fresh produce for the Issaquah Food & Clothing Bank. In the process, they learn techniques for growing food organically and utilizing natural resources wisely. Join us to help plant, harvest, weed and have fun — all while serving a good cause! The City of Issaquah owns the Pickering Demonstration Garden and offers volunteer drop-in hours:

a. March & April: Tuesdays: 10-1pm, and 1st & 3rd Wednesdays: 3pm-6pm;
b. May - Sept: Tuesdays, 10-1pm; 1st and 3rd Wednesdays 3-7pm; 2nd and 4th Saturdays 10-1pm. 
c. Children ages 9 and older are welcome without adult, but must have holdharmless agreement. Children ages 8 and younger are welcome with adult.
d. Questions & registering groups: Check with the Resource Conservation Office for details at 425-837-3400 or sustainability@issaquahwa.gov.
e. Tools & gloves provided. Bring water and snacks, and dress for the weather.
