Through our own PTSA website, we have the ability to send out dedicated email blasts to the entire parent community, or a subset of them.  However, PTSA email blasts of this sort should be used sparingly because we try to be sensitive about the number of emails that parents receive that are related to the school or PTSA.  When parents receive too many emails related to school, they are more likely to either "tune out" and delete the emails without reading them, or get frustrated and unsubscribe.  To avoid contributing to this problem, the Cascade Ridge PTSA tries to limit the use of dedicated PTSA eblasts.

Eblasts should only be used in the following circumstances:

  • The message is urgent, and needs to be communicated before the next Coyote Connection (every Thursday) goes out.  (If your message can wait until Thursday, then put it in the Connection.)
  • The message is reminding parents about a deadline for an important school-wide sign up or registration, and the deadline is looming within the next 1-3 days.
  • There has been a last-minute change to a scheduled event or meeting, and the change needs to be communicated immediately to avoid confusion or frustration.
  • The message affects a broad segment of the school population, and not just a small group of students.

In general, program coordinators should try and utilize one of the other communication methods (e-newsletters, bulletin board, reader board, website, etc.) in order to get the word out.  However, if your message meets the above criteria, then a dedicated PTSA email blast is appropriate.
