Hello 5th Grade Families,

We hope you are all staying safe and healthy during this difficult time.  While we will not be returning to Cascade Ridge Elementary physically to attend school, the Fifth-grade committee still wanted to make sure that the Fifth-grade class has a special rest of the year.  In the past our students have had the opportunity to participate in activities exclusive to the Fifth grade, culminating in a promotion ceremony (traditionally known as “cast- off”).

A Fifth-grade parent committee has been formed to support the school administrative staff and the Fifth-grade teachers in planning a memorable conclusion to our student's final year of elementary school.  The committee coordinates a class service project, the cast-off ceremony, end of year activity and gift for teachers and staff that were instrumental in our children’s time at Cascade Ridge.

5th Grade Cast off Ceremony

June 19th

When we thought of all the scenarios that COVID-19 impacted, our thoughts immediately went to the first responders or front-line workers in our community.  We also thought of the front-line workers who weren’t receiving enough appreciation for providing services that help our community continue to function normally.

This year’s Fifth-grade service project is an opportunity to write thank-you notes to our local grocers who are courageous and selfless to keep their doors open and operate as an essential service.  Many of their workers have families to consider and yet they have done their best to keep their stores open and shelves stocked.  Specifically, we’d like to provide “thank you” notes to the QFC’s located at Pine Lake, Klahanie, and Issaquah.  The store managers at each of these QFC locations have expressed that it would mean so much to their employees to know how much they are appreciated.  Our act of kindness represents a very heartfelt and warm way to make their day!  Also, each of the store managers have agreed to hang up our “thank you” notes within their stores.  As a matter of fact, during your next grocery store visit later this month, you might be able to see our collection of “thank you” notes posted up at your local QFC!

Attached is a “thank you” template that we encourage your 5th grader to use.  Please print the attachment and complete THREE Thank-You notes (i.e. one for each QFC location).  Feel free to decorate, color and add fun things like stickers, drawings or glitter.  Several ideas of comments to write include:

“Dear QFC – Thank you for keeping your doors opens and shelves stocked”

“Dear QFC – I appreciate you and all that you do. Thank you for all of your hard work.”

“Dear QFC – I am grateful for all that you do.  Thank you for _______________.”

If your 5th Grader chooses to sign their note, provide their FIRST NAME ONLY.  Also, there’s no obligation to sign their “thank you notes”; its your choice.

Please drop off completed “thank you” notes by 5pm on Sunday, May 31st in the box sitting outside the front door of Sandra Vanderzee’s house (27198 SE 18th Place - Glencoe) or Susan Ho’s house (2006 264th Place SE – Preswick/Braemore).

If you don’t have access to a printer, pre-printed “thank you” notes are available to pick up in boxes sitting outside the front door of either Sandra and Susan’s house.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to either Sandra (thevanderzees@gmail.com) or Susan (sh97062@gmail.com).

Many thanks in advance to all of the 5th Graders at CRE!  QFC is really looking forward to receiving our notes.

Treat Trail- Walk, Bike, Scooter or Drive up pick up

Date: mid June -TBD

Time:  TBD

While we cannot gather for a Fifth-grade party, we still wanted to do something fun for the Fifth-grade rs.  We set up stations throughout the Trossachs Neighborhood. The treat stations will be outside and kids can walk, bike, scooter or drive with their parents to pick up a treat during certain hours.  We will follow the 6 feet guidelines outlined by the Governor and all volunteers will have gloves and masks.  The items will be picked up outside of driveways and a list of addresses will be provided.  For kids who live outside of the neighborhood they can drive, for kids in the neighborhood we hope they will walk, bike or scooter.
