Revised 8/11/2009
It is the VP of Volunteers’ job to recruit the large volunteer corps that supports our PTSA programs and in conjunction with the other members of the EC/B, ensure that our volunteers receive an appropriate level of recognition and appreciation for their time and effort. This VP manages the recruitment process, from developing the volunteer signup form that allows parents to sign up for committees they would like to chair or lend support to, to providing volunteer names and contact information to committee chairs via the master spreadsheet. This VP will conduct “thank you management” at each EC/B meeting: determine who needs to be thanked for that month and make sure one EC/B member is assigned to do it. The VP will keep track of assignments and follow up to make sure they’re done and will host the Volunteer Brunch in the spring.
The VP of Volunteers oversees the following Standing and Ad Hoc committees:
This committee works closely with the Cascade Ridge Library Specialist to identify volunteer needs for the library and schedules available volunteers. Parent volunteers are scheduled weekly in approximately 2 hour time blocks to assist with check in/out and reshelving books. Library volunteers have the opportunity to check out books of their own choice. Special projects may also be requested by the Library Specialist.
Room parents are the option of each teacher. Depending on the needs and personal style of each teacher, they usually help the teacher schedule other classroom volunteers to help with things like reading, math, copying, or party planning. The Room Parent Coordinator coordinates all the room parents. He/she provides information to the room parents to help them do the job the teacher has asked them to do. In addition, he/she works directly with the room parents to obtain volunteer support within each classroom for different PTSA programs. By working directly with the room parents to find classroom volunteers to help with, say, the Walkathon or Eager Reader, the Room Parent Coordinator tries to minimize the number of contacts teachers are subjected to from different committees seeking volunteer help.
Once a month at lunch time, students whose birthday falls in that month are recognized by the rest of the students in the lunch room. The PTSA supplies a dessert that falls within the nutritional guidelines. This once-a-month lunch time celebration is intended to be in lieu of multiple birthday parties in individual classrooms to minimize disruptions to learning time, in keeping with Cascade Ridge’s Founding Beliefs and Guiding Principles.
The Issaquah School District nurses perform vision and hearing testing, as well as head lice checks for all Cascade Ridge students on a yearly basis. Chairperson is responsible for acting as liaison to ISD nurse, soliciting and scheduling volunteers and securing refreshments. A total of 60 volunteers are needed for this large undertaking and they will be trained to work immediately prior to their shift. Because this process is very focused and busy, volunteers are asked to not bring preschoolers along.
This chair works with staff and photographers on the day of individual photos and class photos.
This chair works with the physical education staff to coordinate activities and volunteers for this June event.
