The VP of Community Relations oversees the following Standing and Ad Hoc committees:

  • Standing Committees
    • Baking Committee
    • Staff Appreciation (incl. Back-to-school luncheon)
    • Hospitality Committee
  • Ad Hoc Committees
    • Family Fun Nights (which could incl. Bingo Night, Festival of Cultures)
    • Winterfest
    • Dad’s Play Day at School
    • Business Days/Popsicle Social

In addition to overseeing these committees, the VP of Community Relations shall continue researching new public relations ideas. This VP should ensure that every family feels welcomed and part of the Cascade Ridge Community. This VP should ensure that social events planned are ones that are welcomed by the majority of the membership and are providing an opportunity for community building. This VP should attend or have a designate attend Coffee with the Principal. Any Community Relations activities should take into account the PTSA current goals and objectives.

The VP of Community Relations will also help organize the back-to-school luncheon for the staff on the day of the Open House.

Baking Committee

This committee provides baked goods as requested for staff appreciation events and any PTSA events. The committee is called upon to help out in providing refreshments at General Membership meetings. This committee can also support the Staff Appreciation Committee. For example, appreciation for the Cascade Ridge staff is expressed during conference time by providing treats and signs in the staff room, as well as putting small treats with business sized cards in appreciation for the hard work they do, in each staff members’ mailbox.

Staff Appreciation

As a part of the Hospitality committee, this committee plans events periodically to thank our staff for the hard work they do. They plan for “appreciation events” during conference time and organize a special week for the staff during the week of the nationally recognized Teacher Appreciation Day or submit another plan instead of the “special week.” This special and fun-filled week is devoted to honoring our multitalented staff at Cascade Ridge. A committee of volunteers is needed to generate ideas for the week that involve students and parents as well as implementing the activities. Time commitment can vary and areas of need include decorations, luncheon planning, gift making and supply shopping. The committee can work with the Hospitality Committee in organizing special events or treats for the staff.

Hospitality Committee

This committee is instrumental in helping all new families to Cascade Ridge Elementary feel welcome. They accomplish this by inviting new families to Coffee with the Principal, inviting them to the most recent PTSA event, providing them with information on the school and the PTSA, answering any questions these families might have, taking them to coffee, and introducing them to other families. This committee runs from October through October so that they can hold a ‘Welcome Back’ coffee on or near the first day of school. This committee also plans each subsequent quarterly Coffee with the Principal. Coffee/Tea and a simple treat need to be coordinated for each month. This can either be done through the Bakers committee or the Coffee with the Principal committee itself. Either the VP of Community Relations or the chairperson for this committee should attend

Family Fun Nights

These include any form of event that is held to encourage community enjoyment. Events like the Back-to-School BBQ, Sock Hop dance, Bingo, Festival of Cultures, Oktoberfest, etc…Chairperson and committee coordinate every aspect of event from room decorations to volunteer coordination to food distribution. Pre-selling tickets is encouraged so quantities can be predetermined. It is also important to note that due to the large size of the student body, event planning needs to take into account space constraints by holding the event in several rooms, breaking the event into more than one night, etc…

Winterfest

Chairperson and committee coordinate a fun evening including holiday craft making and festivities. This event follows the same recommendations as the Family Fun Nights. This is also good night for Gift Wrap and wreath pick-up if the timing works properly.

Business Days/Popsicle Social

This committee plans, schedules, and provides volunteers for Business Days/Popsicle Social. The goal of Business Days is to provide parents an opportunity to complete necessary school and PTSA paperwork, prior to the opening of school. This event is an opportunity for our community to learn about the PTSA. It is also and opportunity for the PTSA to solicit Membership, Coyote Wear pre-orders, and volunteers. Students may also have their picture taken, deposit money into their lunch account, etc…

The goal of the Popsicle Social is to encourage families to gather and socialize with one another prior to school starting. Forms can be turned in on this day, but it is not the focus of the event. Different displays can be made available to inform the community of what the PTSA does and upcoming fund raisers.

Dad’s Play Day at School

This program is intended to provide an opportunity for dads and other family members to come to school and interact with students during lunch recess. Chair will be responsible for coordination all communication and necessary volunteer paperwork. In addition, chair may also facilitate procuring special playground equipment or activities reserved for “Dad’s Day”.

Other miscellaneous job requirements include:

  • Support the Issaquah Schools Foundation (ISF) to best of his/her ability
  • Support the legislative needs of the PTSA.
